Heidi Klum was conceived in Bergisch Gladbach in Germany in June of 1973. Her mother Erna was a hairdresser. The father of Heidi Gunther Klum was a company's executive in the field of cosmetics. Heidi's father was an assistant to the production manager of the 4711 company. Born in Bergisch Gladbach (a city of about 100,000 residents, just about six miles to the to the west of Cologne), Heidi was raised there. Former German-American model, Heidi Klum is now an actor and television host. Karin was a young 18, was a student at the time, and convinced her to join the German Talent Show dubbed Model 92. The German women's magazine Petra sponsored this talent show, which was part of Thomas Gottschalk's talk show. Klum took on 25,000 contestants from all over Germany and Europe until she was one of the three semi-finalists. In April, 1992 she took home the top prize of $300,000.
